The Infinite Levels
The Infinite Levels is an attempt to widen our viewpoint about spiritual matters. Congregation member David Thieke summarizes some of the main philosophical points made by Teilhard De Chardin, Sri Aurobindo, David Bohm, Richard Bucke, Ken Wilber, Alfred North Whitehead and others into a coherent new world view.
Transformational Nourishment
We feed our bodies every day...how do we feed the mind, body, and spirit to strengthen the connections between them? We will explore the process of transforming our daily habits and behaviors that have a narrow and limiting focus into nourishing practices that help us develop and enlighten our whole selves.
ReThinking Worship?
In a recent workshop, a group of SCUU lay leaders held lively discussions about how worship works. In this service, we will gently "try on" some of our ideas for worship, blending the new with the familiar.
The Nine Noble Virtues (Norse)
An introduction to Norse Heathen practice and the virtues most commonly celebrated by Norse practitioners. This service will include an overview of Norse practice (including a short rite enacted by Eric) and a discussion of the Nine Noble Virtues.
Music That Sustains
We all have music in our lives one way or another through listening, singing, playing an instrument, or even drumming on a desktop. In this service, we'll explore ways that music helps us to mark both distinct and everyday moments in our lives. Join us as SCUU musicians share their music and talk about how it sustains them.
Observations from a River
Rough or smooth, full or trickling, murky or clear – what can a river tell us about the ever-changing, intricate human lives we lead? Join Megan for a sermon of reflections generated from living by Sligo Creek in Silver Spring.
The Promises We Make
Megan wrote this sermon – about how modern marriage is a lot like Unitarian Universalism – for the interview weekend she spent with the SCUU Ministerial Search Committee back in February. Come see why they thought she might be a good fit at Sugarloaf. (Yes, MSR, you should still come too!)
The Importance of Place: Ingathering Multigenerational Water Service
Place – where we are – is never a neutral thing. Every place has a feeling, an emotion – and every person has at least one place that they consider to be special, whether that place is near or far away.
Join together for this ingathering service where we come back together to the place we call SCUU for the new church year. Bring with you some water from another place you find special or sacred – whether that place is here nearby, or a place you visited over the summer – for our water communion ritual. See you there to kick off our new year!
